Mar 26, 2011 · Bloat & torsion affects many deep chested breeds such as Great Danes, German Shepherds, Poodles, etc. You are correct that it is more common in them than in the greyhound breed, in general. However, IME, bloat and, subsequently, torsion occurs more often, relatively speaking, in the show bred greyhounds than the racing dogs.

Guests. Posted March 18, 2015. Hi all! Rocky was just acting funny, as in maybe he had bloat. I poked and prodded and don't think he does. He seems fine now. However, in Googling bloat in Greyhounds it mentioned NOT to use an elevated bowl. I did more Googling and read that one MUST use an elevated bowl for food and water.

Oct 21, 2021 · I think bloat is only a concern if they exercise hard before or after eating. He needs to get into a different routine. Take him for a walk before meal times where other dogs have weed to see if he'll go and when he does say something like "wee wee" followed by praise so hopefully he'll learn that by you saying "go wee wee" he'll go it on command.

Nov 22, 2011 · If feeding a Greyhound from a lower position such as a dog dish on the floor contributes to bloat, then why doesn't the kennel feed the Greyhounds on raised bowls? Racing Greyhounds don't get bloat ( and they don't get fed 3 x a day), some are fed from a trough and some are fed from the floor.

Oct 22, 2015 · 10-20 years ago it was accepted wisdom that raised dishes help stop bloat. Since then, there have been studies showing that raised dishes may actually make bloat more likely. Others have found that it makes no difference. Frankly I don't think it makes a difference at all. My dogs seem to prefer raised dishes so that is what I use.
