What is your opinion on the best SHTF pistol caliber
Sep 29, 2009 · My vote is for .22 rf and .357 Mag. The .22 is ideal for small game hunting and the .357 is useful for larger game and defense at ranges out to 100 yards from a 4" revolver. Plus you can shoot .22 shorts, CB, Longs, etc. and .38 Spl respectively in them, increasing your versatility and reducing your practice expense.

Only very recently has bullet design gotten to the point where hollowpoints in autos actually WORK. For a long time, they simply didn't.

I have always liked the umph of a 45acp. But most 1911 don't have much of a mag cap. The 40S&W is a compromise between a 9mm and 45acp. The price of ammo for a 40 is in between 9 & 45.

Jul 14, 2008 · It is NOT dangerous to use a hot-loaded .45 Colt round, hotter and more powerful than factory .44 Magnum, in a gun that is designed for it, such as a Blackhawk or "old" Vaquero, or any lever gun chambered in the round. The reason is that the metals and designs are the same across multiple calibers.

Dec 28, 2008 · Actually "Stopping" a bear will take more than a handgun unless you're very very lucky, a mid-bore magnum rifle is a good place to start. The .45-70, .450 Marlin and .475 Turnbull are all good "stoppers" but require the large 1895 Marlin action or larger to function and be effective at these pressures.

Jul 30, 2019 · The Beretta and Sig should both be quite capable of 147gr +P JHP, such as Winchester Ranger, Federal HST, etc. SG Ammo and Bone Frog Gun Club both generally have those or something comparable in stock. As far as off-the-shelf factory loads go, that's about the most damage you can do with 9mm.
