The objectives of the mission are to investigate heat flow from the lunar interior, plume-surface interactions, crustal electric and magnetic fields. It will also take X-ray images of the Earth's magnetosphere.

Jan 10, 2025 · Through the agency’s CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative, commercial provider Firefly’s Blue Ghost lander will head to the Moon’s Mare Crisium for a 14-day lunar lander mission, carrying NASA science and technology that will help understand the lunar subsurface in a previously unexplored location.

Jan 15, 2025 · Part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 lander will deliver 10 science and technology payloads to the Moon.

The Blue Ghost lander is designed for a soft landing on the lunar surface and a 60-day operational mission. It will deliver 94 kilograms (207 lb) of payloads to Mare Crisium, a 500-kilometer-wide (310 mi) lunar basin.

Following payload operations, Blue Ghost will capture imagery of the lunar sunset and provide critical data on how lunar regolith reacts to solar influences during lunar dusk conditions. The lander will then operate for several hours into the lunar night.

Blue Ghost will land on the lunar far side carrying LuSee Night, which will deploy directly from the spacecraft. LuSee Night comprises four monopole antennas in the form of two crossed dipoles, each 6 meters tip to tip.
