The history of M1 Garand Bayonets - Fulton Armory
BAYONET, M1: In mid-1943 a new bayonet was ordered with shorter blade of 10" length. It was identical to the WWII 1905 except for the 10" blade. A shorter M7 olive-drab metal/fiberglass scabbard came with it. A very few were dated 1943; the vast majority are undated.

Oct 7, 2017 · I have seen references like that, but I have not seen any M9 articles (either web or books) that indicate any official designation of an M series scabbard for the M9 bayonet. Maybe you can scratch that one off your list.
What follows is a brief survey of the most representative types of bayonets and scabbards used with the M1 Rifle. When the Garand was adopted as our new infantry rifle in 1936, the standard bayonet was the M1905. It was originally designed for the M1903 rifle and was produced by Springfield Armory and Rock Island Arsenal from 1906 to 1922.

Jan 30, 2024 · Carbine/M1 rifle typically have a stamped brass/iron 'pocket' for the bolt handle. Your rifle scabbard is a holdover from the late 19th century. These could still be used on military saddles, or motorcycles/vehicles.

Mar 14, 2002 · Made by Springfield Armory and Rock Island Arsenal from 1906-1922. 16" blade, originally bright polished finish, then blued, then parkerized. Scabbards were the Model 1905 (all leather) and Model 1910 (canvas and leather) MODEL 1905 Same as above with 16" blades. Parkerized finish. Not nearly as well made as the arsenal made bayonets.

Feb 6, 2019 · The M1 Bayonets were not required to be dated, but some exist with 1943 dates. The dies could have been used until they needed replacement and some partially completed and stamped 16" blades could have been completed as 10" M1 bayonets.
