Gidget (/ ˈɡɪdʒɪt /) is a fictional character created by author Frederick Kohner (based on his teenage daughter, Kathy) in his 1957 novel, Gidget, the Little Girl with Big Ideas.

The slight, but very perceptive story concerns a plucky teenage girl nick-named Gidget (contractions of the words Girl and Midget) who mostly just wants to have fun in the sun.
