Re-watching Sleepy Hollow, I think it really is a highlight of late 1990s horror and a high point in Tim Burton's career. As a tribute to Hammer horror, it's impeccable; especially in regards to how it takes Washington Irving's story and turns it into a supernatural mystery.

Aug 9, 2023 · Beetlejuice, Batman, Scissorhands, Ed Wood all rate higher than Sleepy Hollow to me. But yeah Sleepy Hollow is just a small notch below. Perfect setting and type of story for his style Pretty much 100% good movies in his first 10 years. But man, rough following 20 years. Besides Big Fish being good and Corpse Bride being decent, lot of stinkers.

Dec 29, 2021 · Crimson Peak suffers from the same thing as Sleepy Hollow though. Caroline is one of the better animated films that has that sort of Tim Burton-esque gothic vibe to it. Bram Stoker's Dracula I feel is the closest movie stylistically that is also a good movie. It has great costume design, but the movie itself is drearier than Sleepy Hollow.

Oct 1, 2020 · Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is only about 20 pages long, so a feature film adaptation must pad things out a bit, in this case by turning the classic American ghost story into a murder mystery, although sadly we are deprived of seeing the Headless Horseman in a lineup.

On average there was a more interesting film than Sleepy Hollow releasing every other week.
