REI Co-op announced Wednesday it will discontinue its Experiences business, which includes adventure travel, day tours, and classes, according to a message from REI President and CEO Eric Artz to employees.

The outdoor retailer REI announced today that it was exiting its “Experiences” business, ending all adventure travel trips, day tours, and classes. As a result, hundreds of full-time employees and part-time guides will have their jobs eliminated, effective this week.

Seattle-based REI announced on Wednesday it was closing the company’s Experiences division and eliminating the jobs of 438 employees.

REI is shutting down its classes, tours, and events business, collectively known as Experiences. The outdoor retailer announced the end of Experiences on Wednesday, laying off hundreds of employees in the division.
