Firefighters are battling a massive fire that engulfed the Independence Ridge Apartments near Missouri 291 highway and East 39th Street in Independence on Wednesday morning. Firefighters responded to the pre-dawn blaze at the apartments in the 19000 block of East 37th Terrace, north of the Independence Commons shopping center.
