Formula 1 owner Liberty Media has appointed a new president and chief executive officer following Greg Maffei's departure last year. Derek Chang, an executive specialising in media sports and entertainment, will take on the role from 1 February.

By alternating Spa — and probably removing it from the calendar entirely — F1 intends to use its spot to rake in more cash from richer locales. The current front-runner to backfill Spa? Madrid, a city willing to pay F1 $52M per year for the privilege.

The Belgian Grand Prix will appear on the F1 calendar for four of the next six seasons after 2025, taking place in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. It marks a first step from F1 to introduce circuit rotation to its calendar amid sizable demand from countries around the world to host a grand prix.

The deal means the fixture at Spa-Francorchamps – which is among the most recognisable in F1 – will be omitted from the schedule in 2028 and 2030.
