Authorities in San Jose on Wednesday provided details about new charges against former City Councilmember Omar Torres involving sexual assault of a minor that led to his arrest on Election Day.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Embattled San Jose councilmember Omar Torres was arrested Tuesday on charges related to child sexual abuse. Torres' attorney, Nelson McElmurry, told KTVU that his client had his office submit a resignation letter on Tuesday and that coincidentally, the arrest happened a few hours later.

A police report alleges the reported victim claimed serial child abuse that continued after Torres turned 18, spurring molestation charges.
