Michigan’s newly elected state representatives took their oaths of office in Lansing Wednesday, marking the beginning of the 2025 legislative session.

House Republicans have included five immigration-related measures in an initial package of rules for the 119th Congress, potentially teeing up early floor votes on an issue that the GOP heavily leaned into during the 2024 campaign.

After failing to compromise in the final days of the Michigan lame duck session in 2025, Republicans and Democrats have proposed legislation to restore tipped wages and adjust the sick leave act before those taking effect in February.
