A US Supreme Court transformed by Donald Trump now sits as one of the few potential checks on his authority as he returns to the White House.

The Supreme Court doesn't have any vacancies, but Republicans are keeping a close eye on Justices Alito and Thomas for potential retirements in Trump's second term.

The winners in all three races received more than 55% of the vote. Republicans have held a majority on the seven-member Ohio Supreme Court since 1986. In the past two election cycles, a new law required party labels for candidates for supreme court and appellate courts. Republicans swept the supreme court races in 2022 and this year.

With control of the White House and the Senate, Republicans have won more influence over the Supreme Court and the rest of the federal judiciary.
