Saskatchewan grain farmers say their busy harvest season could be derailed after workers at six major grain export terminals in Metro Vancouver walked off the job Tuesday morning, and are urging Ottawa to do more to prevent future supply chain disruptions.

OTTAWA (Reuters) -Workers at the six main grain terminals located in the Canadian port of Vancouver went on strike on Tuesday, a move that could disrupt exports of canola and other crops, government and industry officials said.

Grain terminal workers picked a "high leverage moment" to go on strike in Metro Vancouver as farmers in Western Canada have an abundance of product to move for export, a food economics and supply chain expert says.
