The predominant precipitation type will be rain. However, there will be some snow before all is said and done.

The Boston 25 Weather team is tracking the arrival of rain and a changeover to snow in Massachusetts heading into the weekend. Rain will spread across the region by mid-morning through noon on Friday, with showers persisting all afternoon into the evening.

Snow is already beginning in western Massachusetts as of 8 a.m. Thursday, and it will pick up in the eastern part of the state later this morning. The system is expected to turn into freezing rain this afternoon before tapering off in the evening hours,
