The departments that run Baton Rouge's fire trucks and ambulances are merging, Mayor-President Sid Edwards announced Monday.

“This represents a significant step forward for public safety in our community,” said Baton Rouge Fire Department Chief Michael Kimble.

A woman is behind bars after she allegedly started two separate house fires at neighboring properties on the same day.

According to the West Baton Rouge Fire Department, the fire happened at a manufactured home on Nolan David Road. As of 5:45 p.m., crews were still on the scene.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department, Baton Rouge Police Department and EMS responded to the scene of a car into a home on Tuesday morning.

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards announced the merging of emergency medical services and the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
