Sepp Straka had never entered a final round with a lead on the PGA Tour until Sunday. In his two previous victories, he had to charge from far behind on the final day with no time to feel the nerves that roiled his stomach from the first tee onward at The American Express.

Straka went 69 holes in the La Quinta tournament without a bogey before making bogeys on two of his final three holes. But he was so strong before that the two late bogeys only cut into his margin of victory.

Sepp Straka won $1,584,000 million for capturing his third PGA Tour title on Jan. 19 at The American Express. It was enough to jump 18 spots on the money list. It wasn't enough to catch Hideki Matsuyama or Collin Morikawa.

The PGA Tour 2025 season is only 3 tournaments old, but Sepp Straka thought that’s about enough. Enough of what? Enough tournaments without a winner who played collegiately in Athens under legendary Coach Chris Haack.

Straka shot 2-under 70 in the final round at the Pete Dye Stadium Course to win by two strokes over Justin Thomas.
