At the time, the magazine asked Cruise why he and Kidman had split, and the “Mission: Impossible” star responded vaguely, insisting twice to the outlet that Kidman “knows why.”

Eyes Wide Shut centers on Dr. Bill Harford, who is shocked when his wife, Alice, tells him that she contemplated having an affair the previous summer. He then embarks on a bizarre, night-long odyssey in New York City, during which he infiltrates a masked orgy of a secret society. It was Kubrick’s final film before he died in 1999 at age 70.

While Kidman has grown to keep her private life out of the spotlight, things were different when she wed Cruise in 1990. It was not the first marriage for Cruise, who was wed to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990.
