A winter storm expected to bring heavy snow to Philadelphia on Sunday is already impacting air travel.

The winter storm hitting the tri-state area is significantly affecting air travel, causing cancellations and long delays for flights at John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark airports. A handful of flights scheduled to depart the tri-state area have already been canceled,

With a winter storm moving through the tri-state Sunday afternoon, the New York City metro area’s three major airports were all seeing delays and cancellations. As of 2 p.m. Eastern, Newark Liberty International was seeing 254 cancellations into or out of the airport and another 82 delays Sunday,

The quick-moving system that brought snow to the Philadelphia area has moved out, and now the real chill begins. After several inches of snow fell Sunday night, temperatures began to plummet, with the first of two major pushes of Arctic air arriving Monday morning.

The first snowstorm of 2025 arrived early Monday morning, bringing a significant amount of accumulating snow to the Philadelphia region.

With a winter storm moving in, New Jersey is under a State of Emergency Sunday morning. The State of Emergency, declared by Gov. Phil Murphy, went into effect at 8 a.m. Sunday. The state is expecting heavy snow totaling up to 8 inches followed by extremely low temperatures.

Mayor Cherelle Parker announced a Snow Emergency beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in Philadelphia. As a result, all vehicles must be moved off Snow Emergency Routes throughout the city. Crews will begin removing snow from parking lanes on emergency routes and the Philadelphia Police Department will tow parked vehicles off emergency routes.
