Harry Stewart Jr, a decorated World War II pilot who broke racial barriers as a Tuskegee Airmen and earned honors for his combat heroism, has died. He was 100.Stewart was one of the last surviving combat pilots of the famed 332nd Fighter Group also known as the Tuskegee Airmen.

Lt. Col. Harry T. Stewart Jr. of Michigan, one of the last surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen, has died. He was born on the Fourth of July in 1924.

Harry Stewart Jr. — of World War II’s mostly Black 332nd Fighter Group, more commonly known as the Tuskegee Airmen — died Sunday at his Bloomfield Hills home, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum confirmed.
