One of the most popular rides at Walt Disney World celebrated its 50th anniversary on Wednesday. Towering over Tomorrowland, Space Mountain has been blasting guests on thrilling adventures through the cosmos since its grand opening on Jan.

As modern coasters go, Space Mountain isn’t speedy. It gets up to about 28 mph. The current record holder is Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which hits 149.1 mph, according to the Roller Coaster Database. Orlando’s speediest is SeaWorld’s Mako, which travels 73 mph.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Space Mountain at Walt Disney World and some brand new pins are available.

Walt Disney wanted to build Space Mountain at Disneyland a decade before the indoor roller coaster forever altered the skyline of the Magic Kingdom a few years after the debut of the Florida theme park. Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Space Mountain on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
