Three people have been rescued from the Atlantic Ocean in the dark after their plane went down several miles offshore off the coast of Florida, officials said.

Two people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after their plane crashed into the Long Island Sound, which is near Tweed New Haven Airport.

The sheriff’s helicopter quickly spotted three people in the water, and directed boats toward those in the water. A rescue swimmer went into the water from one of the boats. All three people from the plane were rescued safely, Abollo said.
