The National Weather Service in Peachtree City expanded and upgraded the Metro Atlanta area into a Winter Storm *Warning* due to the snowfall creating hazardous travel conditions in Metro Atlanta, notably east of I-85 and south of I-20.

Temperatures in the city will feel like they are in the single digits on Monday as extremely cold weather moves into the region.

Atlanta expects light snow with a high near 31°F and brisk winds; conditions to improve with midweek sunshine.

The National Weather Service issues a Winter Storm Watch when there is potential for significant and hazardous winter weather to affect the area within 48 hours.

Metro Atlanta school districts have canceled in-person instruction on Tuesday ahead of predicted below-freezing temperatures and possible snow.

Most school districts have announced closures on Wednesday as well. Atlanta Public Schools announced that the district’s schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday and extracurricular activities are canceled. APS schools will share learning plans with families.

An Extreme Cold Warning and Cold Weather Advisory have been issued for portions of North Georgia. This is the first time Atlanta has ever been placed under an Extreme Cold Warning. This is the first winter these two alerts have been used by the National Weather Service.
