CAIRO (Reuters) - Lebanon is set to extradite the son of late senior Muslim cleric Youssef al-Qaradawi to the United Arab Emirates after the country's caretaker cabinet approved the move on Tuesday, the Lebanese prime minister's office said.

The Lebanese government on January 8, 2025 unlawfully deported Abdulrahman Youssef al-Qardawi, an Egyptian-Turkish poet, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he faces a near-certain unfair trial and serious risks of other abuses including torture.

The Lebanese government said Tuesday it has decided to grant an Emirati request to hand over Egyptian opposition activist Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi, son of the late spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.
