AUSTIN, Texas — Tennessee women's basketball head coach Kim Caldwell gave birth to her first child and will not be with the team in Austin for their matchup against No. 7 Texas on Thursday night. "She and husband Justin are the proud parents of a new son, Conor Scott Caldwell. Mom, dad and baby are doing well," the team said in an announcement.
This will be No. 7 Texas' seventh game in the new year, and five of those contests have featured a ranked opponent. Tennessee is ranked 17th.
Texas outscored Tennessee 25-18 in the second, closing the half making its last four shots. The Lady Vols closed the half on a 4:25 field goal drought. Tennessee stormed back, taking multiple leads in the third before a last second jump shot gave Texas a 62-61 lead heading to the fourth.
In a game that featured 15 lead changes, No. 17 Tennessee fell to No. 7 Texas in yet another close contest by a score of 80-76. In all four of the Lady Vols’ losses this season, Tennessee hasn’t lost by more than four points.
Kim Caldwell is not with the Lady Vols after giving birth to a son. Assistant Jenna Burdette will be handing head coaching duties Thursday.
