Indiana resident Emily Hickox, 25, ended up with a winning Michigan Lottery ticket worth $500,000 after doing a white elephant gift exchange with her family.

"We made an agreement after the game to trade gifts," winner Emily Hickox said An Indiana woman recently participated in a white elephant gift exchange — but she had no idea it would lead to her winning a prize worth half a million dollars.

The 56-year-old Kalamazoo County man, who has chosen to stay anonymous, bought the winning ticket for $1 at a Portage gas station in December, lottery officials said in a Jan. 16 news release. He selected the numbers 03-07-10-27-29 on a Fantasy 5 ticket.
