NEW YORK — New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov was suspended for three games without pay on Friday for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia Flyers forward Ryan Poehling. Poehling left the game Thursday night in the first period with an upper-body injury and didn’t return.

New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov received a three-game suspension from the NHL on Friday, one day after delivering a high hit to Philadelphia Flyers center Ryan Poehling. Tsyplakov had a hearing earlier on Friday with the NHL Department of Player Safety.

While he wasn't initially penalized, the NHL has now issued a multi-game suspension for Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov.
