After four terms in office, King County Executive Dow Constantine has announced he will not seek reelection next year. Already two members of the King County Council are possible contenders for his job.

King County Executive Dow Constantine has announced he is not seeking re-election in 2025. He held the position for 15 years ago after a stint on the county council — the longest anyone has been executive in King County since 1968.

Constantine made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that it is time for King County to have a new leader take the reins and continue the work he has done during his tenure.

Constantine has led the state’s largest county longer than anyone in its modern history, helping to transform it while struggling to deal with homelessness.

King County Councilmember and Sound Transit Board Member Claudia Balducci announced she plans to run for the open seat of King County Executive in 2025.
