Marblehead Public Schools will reinstate athletics and extracurriculars as teacher strikes drag on, the district reported Thursday, allowing this weekend’s high school football playoff game to continue.

The Marblehead High School football team is supposed to play in the Division 4 quarterfinals on Thursday, but because of the teachers strike, the acting superintendent has called off games and extracurricular activities.

Classes were canceled again on Wednesday for nearly 10,000 students as the teachers’ strike continues across three North Shore communities. Educators across Beverly, Gloucester and Marblehead are refusing to return to the job until a new contract is reached with their local school committees.
