Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC has now set the record for highest concurrent player count on Steam for a single-player Final Fantasy game.

Following its recent launch on PC, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth broke a concurrent-players record on Steam for single-player entries in the franchise over the weekend. The RPG--which initially launched on PS5 in February 2024--saw over 40,000 people exploring the game with Cloud Strife and his friends.

Rebirth beat out FF7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 handily, and only trails behind the Final Fantasy 14 MMO in the series' PC releases.

Evidently, FF7 Rebirth is another SSD -hogging gigantogame, though for some the bigger concern will be those minimum GPU specs. While none of the Radeon, RX 6600, Arc A580, or RTX 2060 are high-end cards in themselves, the official listings' emphasis on meeting at least these specific hardware generations does reveal an unusually high fussiness.

Close to a year after its launch on PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is escaping from Midgar and entering into the wider world of PC gaming.
