The rumor mill surrounding the NBA trade deadline is getting hot and heavy for the New Orleans Pelicans. After a report last week suggested the Toronto Raptors may be interested in Brandon Ingram, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that the Pelicans are interested in Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.

Depending on how you process any recent Heat news, that latter point feels correct, given some of Butler’s relationships with players on Miami’s roster. That is especially true of younger contributors who have grown to see Butler as a mentor no matter his team-related drama or level of candor.

League sources tell Fischer and Stein that New Orleans contacted the Heat this week about Butler, although terms of the offer weren’t divulged. The authors’ sources say Brandon Ingram ‘s $36MM expiring contract would be the basis of the deal.
