An American Airlines regional jet went down in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

An airplane collided with a helicopter while trying to land at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday night, officials said.

Two planes aborted landings at Reagan National Airport in the past week due to military helicopters in their flight path, according to the Washington Post.

In somber remarks at a news conference early Thursday morning, Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall suggested he feared the passengers and crew aboard a regional American Airlines jet and a Black Hawk helicopter that collided were lost.
