Mexico will ask Donald Trump’s administration this week to be exempted from an increase in steel tariffs to 50%, the country’s economy minister said on Tuesday.

The United States will double its tariffs on imported steel and aluminum starting Wednesday, according to the White House, as it published an order signed by President Donald Trump.

President Trump is doubling tariffs on most imported steel and aluminum to 50%, effective Wednesday, except for Britain, which has a preliminary trade agreement. This increase impacts major trading partners like Canada and Mexico significantly.
