Gov. Jared Polis renamed the Mountain Lion Trail in Golden Gate Canyon State Park the Rocky Mountain High Trail on Wednesday, paying homage to the 50th anniversary of John Denver's iconic song.

The 12,000-acre state park is just 14 miles up Golden Gate Canyon Road from Golden off Colorado 93. Its visitor center has a Golden address, despite being just across the Gilpin County line.

To fuel the trek, Golden Gate’s visitor center at 92 Crawford Gulch Rd., Golden, will host a holiday open house with hot cider, cookies and candy canes each of those days.
