Cities and organizations throughout the Pittsburgh area are going to be opening warming centers as the region is bracing for the arrival of extremely cold temperatures over the next several days.The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory that is in place through 1 p.

The Summit Lake Community Center at 380 W. Crosier St. in Akron will be open as a warming center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday, along with the city's other community centers. The Emergency Overnight Shelter at 111 East Voris St. in Akron is open when temperatures dip below 15 degrees.

The City of Dayton announced it will operate three recreation centers as warming centers this week. They are scheduled to be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. All three centers are closed today due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, according to a City of Dayton spokesperson.

A severe winter storm brings cold temperatures to Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, with wind chills expected to drop into the teens and 20s. Residents without adequate heat or shelter are encouraged to seek out warming centers in their area.

With dipping into the teens on Sunday night, warming centers are opening back up around East Tennessee. Donald Trump intends to start his second White House term by unleashing more than 100 executive orders and directives.

Broadway Christian Parish and Howard Park Event Center will serve as the supplemental overnight warming centers. Other resources are also available.
