AMD says Valve will be using one of its latest processors, the Z2 Series, inside a new Steam Deck, but Valve says otherwise.

AMD unveiled the Ryzen Z2 processor line today, intended to power a new wave of gaming handhelds. While early word from the manufacturer appeared to suggest that a Z2-powered Steam Deck was on the way, a Valve dev has logged on to tell the world that no such product is in development.

With Ryzen Z1 chips, AMD made it very black and white in terms of picking between a mid-range and a top tier APU. For 2025, Ryzen Z2 has three different versions for three very different target audiences.

AMD initially said they would come to the Steam Deck (and others) but Valve has categorically denied a Z2 Deck.
