A map produced by Met Éireann to illustrate a weather warning as Storm Éowyn approaches has caused confusion after showing the Republic covered in red while the north remains amber. The map on the forecaster’s website shows areas set to be most affected by the storm with every county in the Republic lit up red.

Weather expert Mark Bowe has highlighted the "extremely rare" nature of a nationwide Status Red alert from Met Eireann. The National Emergency Co-ordination Group is urging everyone to hunker down at home, schools to shut their doors, and workers to avoid commuting until the storm blows over, likely by Friday evening.

US 'Hurricane Hunters' have landed in Ireland ahead of Storm Eowyn, as terrifying winds of up to 130km/h, heavy rain and snow threaten to bring chaos. Met Eireann has issued Status Red weather warnings for the entire country.
