AMD is following up its impressive Ryzen Z1 chip, which powered the original ASUS ROG Ally, with the Ryzen Z2 at CES 2025. You can pretty much guess what it delivers: More power, and potentially more battery life.

AMD unveiled the Ryzen Z2 processor line today, intended to power a new wave of gaming handhelds. While early word from the manufacturer appeared to suggest that a Z2-powered Steam Deck was on the way, a Valve dev has logged on to tell the world that no such product is in development.

AMD initially said they would come to the Steam Deck (and others) but Valve has categorically denied a Z2 Deck.
