Severe flash flooding struck New York City, Westchester County, Staten Island, and Rockland County, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Islanders reached out to share pictures and stories of impassable roads and more after a severe storm swept through New York City Monday night, causing flash flooding in many areas of the borough.

Heavy rains during the evening brought flooding, road closures and power outages throughout New Jersey, which is under a state of emergency.

The region was hit with heavy rain Monday evening, resulting in flash floods that not only impacted roads and air travel, but also the transit system.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A flood watch is in effect for Staten Island from 2 p.m. Monday through midnight, with the National Weather Service warning of potential scattered thunderstorms and possible flash flooding across New York City.

At 4:02 p.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service issued an updated flood watch in effect until Tuesday at midnight for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties.

Flooding at the Rockland Plaza in Nanuet was just one of many locations across the Tri-State area slammed with heavy, soaking rain.
