Forecasters warned Monday that a powerful storm system is approaching San Diego County that could trigger flooding and debris flows, particularly in recent burn areas.

Wet weather is on its way to San Diego County Monday, with rain arriving as early as Tuesday, forecasters said

According to the National Weather Service, a flood watch is in effect for San Diego County from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night.

"Rainfall is expected to decrease to the south with around one-quarter to one-half inch for the Inland Empire and Orange County, and around one-third inch across northern San Diego County to around one-tenth inch across southern San Diego County.

The incoming weather systems are projected to bring rain across Southern California’s coastal communities, including the burn-scarred hills and mountains around Los Angeles, raising fears of mudflows and flash flooding. But the bulk of the storms will likely stay north of San Diego County.

There is up to a 15% chance of light precipitation on Tuesday as the marine layer deepens from coastal to foothill areas throughout the county, with the heavier rain arriving later in the week, forecasters said.
