It's no secret that the Patriots have a soft schedule. The question is whether that will matter in the playoffs.
FOXBOROUGH — Following Thursday’s win over the Jets, Mike Vrabel admitted Drake Maye was one of the things that drew him to the Patriots. Vrabel had hinted at it in the past, but sitting next to Maye on Amazon’s postgame show, Vrabel spoke candidly about the 23-year-old quarterback’s role in luring him back to Foxborough.
"I think Josh [McDaniels] and Ashton [Grant] have tried to work hard on that. I also think Drake is talented." The post Why Mike Vrabel compared Patriots QB Drake Maye to Hall-of-Fame pitcher appeared first on Boston.
If you needed an example of that, look no further than Maye's weekly radio appearance on WEEI. During Wednesday's show, Maye was asked about comments made by former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, who said the team's success was " fool's gold " due to its weak schedule.
The Patriots currently lead the all-time series against the Cincinnati Bengals by an 18-10 margin. They won the last game between the two teams in the season-opener last year, when Jerod Mayo made his head coaching debut. The rematch will be very different with Drake Maye at quarterback and Mike Vrabel as the Patriots' head coach.
The New England Patriots are still surging heading into Week 12, with a 9-2 record and another win expected against the 3-7 Cincinnati Bengals. In their most recent NFL Power Rankings, The Athletic ranked the Patriots fifth after a sixth-place appearance last week.
The irony, of course, is that the 2018 Patriots team beat McVay in his first trip to the Super Bowl as head coach of the Rams. Oddly enough, that Patriots team dominated McVay's Rams in the Super Bowl not because of the offense but because of the defense.
Saunders was initially cut by the Patriots to make room for tight end C.J. Dippre, who signed to the 53-man roster on Monday. Patriots tight end Austin Hooper went into concussion protocol last week, and the team is looking to add an extra layer of depth at the tight end position.
