New York's highest court declined to block Donald Trump's upcoming sentencing in his hush money case Thursday, leaving the U.S. Supreme Court as the president-elect's likely last option to prevent the hearing from taking place Friday.

Trump's lawyers argued that the justices should step in and pause his sentencing "to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency."

Trump was convicted on May 30, 2024, in a case relating to his hush money payments to an adult film actress. Trump falsified business records from his company, the Trump Organization, to make reimbursements to his then-lawyer Michael Cohen to hide the payments in the run-up to Election Day 2016.
