A low-pressure area (LPA) formed outside the Philippine area of Responsibility on Sunday morning, according to the state weather service. In a Facebook post, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said this LPA has a “high chance” of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

The low pressure area which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility before dawn on Saturday has intensified and is now a tropical depression which PAGASA has named Nika.

Meanwhile, another LPA formed outside PAR on Friday evening. It was located 2,870 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao at 3 am on Saturday, still far outside PAR. It currently has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA.
