CSU Channel Islands evacuated due to the rapidly spreading Laguna Fire in Camarillo, with firefighting efforts underway.

Dubbed the Laguna Fire, it was burning quickly and initially pegged at about 3 acres with a rapid rate of spread. The fire burned down to Potrero Road with potential to reach structures on campus, according to initial reports.

A brush fire, named the Laguna Fire, erupted close to the CSU Channel Islands campus early Thursday morning, prompting evacuations and road closures in the vicinity amid challenging Santa Ana wind conditions.

The Laguna Fire in Ventura County has prompted evacuations at CSU Channel Islands, burning over 50 acres so far.

Evacuations are in effect for the California State University, Channel Islands campus after a wildfire sparked Thursday morning in Southern California. The Laguna Fire started near Laguna and Lewis roads in the Camarillo area of Ventura County.
