Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP state president K Annamalai whipped himself eight times on Friday morning as a mark of protest to demand justice in the Anna University alleged sexual assault case. The self-whipping was a part of a vow he made during a press conference the previous day.

Annamalai criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led government, alleging an increase in crimes against women, ANI reported. He told reporters that two unidentified persons entered the campus and assaulted the student.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai announced a 48-day protest, pledging to fast and remain barefoot against the DMK government's handling of a university student's alleged sexual assault in Chennai.

Calling the DMK an “evil force,” Annamalai urged the middle class to rise and question the government. He demanded the sacking of the Chennai city police commissioner or at least the deputy commissioner over the Anna University case.

Annamalai vowed to lash himself with a whip six times outside his residence and embark on a barefoot protest until the DMK government is removed from power. NCW has taken the suo moto cognizance of the matter.
