A show known for its devastating character departures now has a big one behind the scenes: The Last of Us co-showrunner Neil Druckmann is exiting the HBO hit series.

Neil Druckmann has announced he is stepping away from “The Last of Us” TV series at HBO. “I’ve made the difficult decision to step away from my creative involvement in The Last of Us on HBO,” Druckmann said in a statement posted to the official Naughty Dog Instagram account.

Neil Druckmann, who co-created and directed the Naughty Dog video games for Sony Playstation and has been quite hands on throughout the first two seasons of the TV adaptation, will take a step back from the series creatively for Season 3, sources confirm to Deadline.
