New details have been released regarding the death of 8-year-old Serenity Campos, a Texas student who was killed while being dropped off at school last week.

The Gateway Elementary second grader was killed by a vehicle after her coat got stuck in the car door at morning drop off.

A Texas second grader died Friday following a "tragic accident" at a school drop-off area, police said. According to the Borger Police Department, first responders were called to Gateway Elementary around 8 a.m. after a student's coat got caught in a car door as they got out of the vehicle.

School at Gateway Elementary released early for the day, and police said "our hearts go out to all those affected by this horrible accident."

An eight-year-old girl, since identified as Serenity Campos, was exiting a vehicle at Gateway Elementary’s designated student drop-off area Last Friday when, unbeknownst to the driver, her coat became caught in the car door.

No child should ever lose their life on the way to school. Tragically, it happens far too often, and today we must share the heartbreaking story of another senseless accident with fatal consequences.
