The former England captain, Casey Stoney has today been appointed the head coach of the Canadian women's national soccer team leading into the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

Stoney was named head coach of Canada’s women on Monday. She signed a three-year contract with Canada Soccer that runs through the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with an option for 2028. Stoney takes over the Canadian team from Bev Priestman, who was fired in the wake a drone surveillance scandal at last year’s Olympics.

When Janine Beckie found out who the new head coach of Canada's women's soccer team would be, she felt excitement above all else. Beckie, a veteran on Canada's team, said Stoney is the "perfect fit" and is encouraged by the hire.
