I booked a tour for this for a reasonable price as you must get through Mekong to the other side. Was a nice experience with one cave-temple down the second up via longer stairs (10 mins walk).Full review by Marek B
Did you book a boat tour online before trip or did you just walk to pier and found one there?

I suggest you book with any of the travel agents on Khem Khong (riverside road) directly, that way you can bargain and get a better rate.Have breakfast a little early then head for Pak Ou Caves, dont miss the confluence of Nam Ou & Mekong then comes Whiskey Village. After you come back to LP can proceed to Kuang Si Falls where you can have lunch.
Thank you so much for your review, Chun Yin L. I am visiting Luang Prabang in February and the Pak ou caves are included in my itinerary. As I have a few knee problems could you tell me roughly how many steps there are to the lower caves, please? Is the ground slippery? I gather the upper caves are for the very fit? Steep and many steps? Many thanks for your time.

hi, there are quite a few steps up to the cave itself and they were a bit slippery when we were there. even so I wouldn't miss going to the caves. you can see inside a bit from the landing place, well worth it, and maybe a couple of steps will allow you to see even more. also we saw elephants bathing in the river on the opposite bank to the caves. Can't garentee that but the trip up the river is worth it anyway.
